History

The Resurgens Hand Center is a highly specialized group of twelve Hand Surgeons within the greater Resurgens Orthopaedic practice.

The Resurgens Hand Center was initially founded in 1982 by Dr. Frank R. Joseph who was recruited by a major Atlanta Hospital to create a center specializing in the treatment of Hand and Upper extremity disorders. The Hand Center was initially named the Atlanta Hand Center. Initially, The Atlanta Hand Center was the only practice strictly limiting itself to the treatment of hand and upper extremity problems within the Atlanta area.

In 1986, Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick joined the Hand Center from the internationally renowned Louisville Hand program.

In 1991, Dr. Mark McBride joined the Hand Center after completing his fellowship from the Louisville Hand program.

In 1996, the group was further expanded with the addition of Dr. Hank Holliger from the Duke University Hand Fellowship program.

The year 1999 was a pivotal year in Orthopaedic Surgery in the greater Atlanta area. A number of prominent Orthopaedic Surgery practices, including the Atlanta Hand Center, merged together and created Resurgens Orthopaedics. Resurgens Orthopaedics is the largest musculoskeletal practice in the Southeast, and certainly one of the premier Orthopaedic practices nationally.

With this phenomenal merger, Dr. Scott Levere joined the new Resurgens Hand Center, while maintaining his upper extremity practice in Cobb County.

In 2002, Dr. Christopher Walsh left his teaching position at the University Hospitals of Cleveland to join the Resurgens Hand Center to cover the southern crescent of metropolitan Atlanta.

In 2004, Dr. Glenn Jonas who previously was on the Albert Einstein Medical School Staff in NYC joined Dr. Levere to expand his coverage of the Cobb County area.

In 2004, Dr. Jason Schneider joined the Resurgens Hand Center after not only completing a Hand Fellowship but a Shoulder and Elbow fellowship.

In 2007, Dr Milan Patel joined the Resurgens Hand Center expanding coverage to Gwinnett County residents. Dr Patel completed a hand and upper extremity fellowship at St. Luke’s/ Roosevelt Hospital as well as a pediatric hand and upper extremity fellowship at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

In 2008, Dr John Mowbray joined Resurgens after completing his hand and upper extremity fellowship at Vanderbilt University.

In 2009, Dr Jennifer Tucker relocated her practice to Cobb County. She completed her fellowship at the University of California and an AO fellowship in shoulder and elbow in Zurich, Switzerland.

In 2010, Dr Phani Dantuluri joined Resurgens in our Fulton and DeKalb County locations. He completed his fellowship at the Harvard Combined Upper Extremity Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women's Hospital and an international shoulder and elbow fellowship in Lyon France.
