The Resurgens Hand Center is a highly specialized group of eight Hand Surgeons within the greater Resurgens Orthopaedic practice.
The Resurgens Hand Center was initially founded in 1982 by Dr. Frank R. Joseph who was recruited by a major Atlanta Hospital to create a center specializing in the treatment of Hand and Upper extremity disorders. The Hand Center was initially named the Atlanta Hand Center. Initially, The Atlanta Hand Center was the only practice strictly limiting itself to the treatment of hand and upper extremity problems within the Atlanta area.
In 1986, Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick joined the Hand Center from the internationally renowned Louisville Hand program. Dr. Kirkpatrick added an important female perspective to the practice as well as a strong interest in pediatric and congenital hand surgery.
In 1991, Dr. Mark McBride joined the practice also from the Louisville Hand program.
In 1996, the group was further expanded with the addition of Dr. Hank Holliger from the Duke University Hand Fellowship program.
The year 1999 was a pivotal year in Orthopaedic Surgery in the greater Atlanta area. A number of prominent Orthopaedic Surgery practices, including the Atlanta Hand Center, merged together and created Resurgens Orthopaedics. Resurgens Orthopaedics is the largest musculoskeletal practice in the Southeast, and certainly one of the premier Orthopaedic practices nationally.
With this phenomenal merger, Dr. Scott Levere joined the new Resurgens Hand Center, while maintaining his upper extremity practice in Cobb County.
In 2002, Dr. Christopher Walsh left his teaching position at the University Hospitals of Cleveland to join the Resurgens Hand Center to cover the southern part of metropolitan Atlanta.
In 2004, Dr. Glenn Jonas who previously was on the Albert Einstein Medical School Staff in NYC joined Dr. Levere to expand his coverage of the Cobb County area.
Finally in 2004, Dr. Jason Schneider joined the Resurgens Hand Center after not only completing a Hand Fellowship but a Shoulder and Elbow fellowship.
The Resurgens Hand Center’s services are complemented by in house Hand therapists at our larger offices who work directly with the physicians to maximize rapid functional return during the course of treatment.
All members of the Hand Center have completed at least a one-year hand fellowship in the USA.
